Remember that as a nursing student you will have additional costs in the form of medical equipment, uniform and licensure examinations cost in addition to tuition and living costs. Financial aid for accelerated baccalaureate program enrollees is limited. This is why legislators, federal and state levels, are being persuaded to increase grants and scholarships for such programs. Many employers value the varied range of skill and knowledge that graduates from accelerated nursing programs bring to their careers.

In most cases, employers note that graduates from accelerated programs tend to be more mature, possess stronger clinical skills and are flexible in the work environment. A range of different employers across the country are entering into a partnership with schools to offer a scheme whereby they repay graduates the cost of tuition in a bid to attract graduates from accelerated programs.

As a Second Degree student, your clinical experiences begin your very first semester of the program. You will complete your clinical hours in hospitals and community facilities under the supervision of expert clinical faculty and nurse preceptors.

These experiences are a great way to apply knowledge and theory gained in the classroom to your clinical practice. Both the month and month tracks start in August and include rigorous coursework and clinical practice in health care settings. The month track is a full-time commitment completed in three semesters. The following plan of study is for students entering in spring terms. This degree track option is offered at our Round Rock location. Students are admitted twice per year, in both the spring and fall terms.

All prerequisite coursework must be successfully completed by the first day of class. Pre-licensure students Traditional and Second Degree BSN are admitted to a specific campus location and must attend all classes, simulation lab and clinical experiences at that location throughout the duration of the program. Due to strict regulations from the Texas Board of Nursing which govern clinical rotations, the College of Nursing with rare exception does not allow students to transfer from one campus to another.

Apply Texas application dates vary for international applicants. Applicants should submit only one NursingCAS application per admission cycle. Courses may be in progress during the application cycle, however, all courses must be completed with a minimum grade of "C" by the first class day.

Please see below for a list of required courses. All courses are subject to approval by the College of Nursing when the student applies for admission. By the application deadline, applicants must have completed a minimum of 40 prerequisite course credit hours of the 59 hours required. Students may repeat prerequisite courses, however, grades earned from both the first and a second attempt will be used to determine the final GPA. Any additional attempts will not be considered.

If a grade of "C" is not earned within 2 attempts, the student will not be eligible for admission. This requirement can be met by having completed two years of the same foreign language in high school, by completing two semesters of the same foreign language at the university level or by demonstrating proficiency in a foreign language by examination.

If a course is not listed in the matrix or is listed as "TRNS" transfer by title , please contact an adviser to identify the appropriate course of action to determine course transferability. It is strongly recommended that applicants present a GPA above 3. Denied students interested in a future cycle are required to update their term of entry with USF Admissions within one calendar year of the original application and submit a new NursingCAS application when it becomes available.

Students cannot switch campuses once admitted to the Accelerated Second Degree nursing pathway. All admitted nursing students are required to complete a background check, immunization verification, drug screening, and more.

Additionally, students will be required to provide proof of current health insurance. Admitted students will be provided with the steps to complete this process.

Applicants who have attended, but not completed, another registered nursing program must provide a letter of good standing from the Dean of Nursing, or their appointed designee, that addresses the potential for success in a BSN program, safety in providing nursing care, interpersonal communication skills, and other information the campus director deems important.

Note: The Accelerated Second Degree nursing pathway is a limited-access program and requires both admission to the university and an application to the College of Nursing through NursingCAS. Admission to the university is not a guaranteed admission to the College of Nursing.

Any deviation from the posted criteria will cause the applicant to be ineligible for admission. The College of Nursing will evaluate prerequisite coursework after the USF Office of Admissions has determined course transferability to the university and posted the official results in DegreeWorks, which requires all official transcripts to be processed by the USF Office of Admissions.
