Repairing internet explorer in windows 2000
Perhaps, I did some of them incorrectly. Anyway, no big deal. I can always log on to the Administrator account if I need to use the IE. Or use the other PCs in the house. As for the unsafe nature of IE6, I believe you guys. Can you browse the internet using windows explorer? Other unusual things that can cause a similar problem security settings could be set to "high", Norton, Macaffee especially true with XP , Zone Alarm, may not want to "disengage".
I used to be tech support for Earthlink so I am acutally well versed in such issues. Other things can even include an internet accelerator.
Under internet options "connections" you may need to explore for checked proxy boxes this is more true with accelerators. Originally Posted by edong. Reformat and reinstall W End of problem. Although this may sound intimidating, this article offers the most direct, trouble-free methods to perform this task. You can reset the program settings to repair your Internet Explorer. To do this, use the following procedure:. Just to clarify things, the message you see in your picture IMAG is just a generic error message the installer puts up when it encounters a certain type of problem; programmers try to prepare for everything, but sometime unforeseen situations appear.
In your case, the message is about a damaged download location information, more than likely the download location the installer was looking for doesn't exist anymore. Using the full installer instead of the web installer avoids this problem. Dude, IE 6 is really old. Anything that requires it to run won't be running that much longer.
And it has truly horrible security problems as does your Windows operating system. Honestly, if you have this box connected to the internet you damn well better have a firewall on it like Zone Alarm or something else or it will literally be minutes before it's hacked. If you don't have a firewall installed and it's already on the internet it's not protected like by a business firewall but just on a home connection , then it's already been hacked whether you know it or not.
Microsoft usually doesn't make packages as old as ie6sp1 available after this much time. As nic2k4 points out, you will have to find some place on the internet that has the true full installer available and just run that. Dude i get its old , that is not the point , all my computer are windows 7 xp and 8 i need to install a software for a touch screen back office computer that use the old windows i know that ie6 sp1 was the last version made for windows i just format the hard drive and install windows updated to sp4 so to run that software i need ie6 sp1 and give me the error on the picture ie5.
If you did a clean install of W2K then you shouldn't be having any problems with IE6. Download another copy of IE6 from filehippo or oldapps. Maybe you just have the wrong version. They run IE6 and most apps that W2K would.
I don't get why your app can't run in XP. And earlier you said if you wanted to surf you could use another machine so by your own admission your app is not dependent on IE6 so why not use opera on this machine?
