If it is, the trigger proceeds to execute its Delete File trigger action. The file in question is deleted. The Year Old Files directory monitor continues scanning the directory for more 1 year old files.

If another one is found, the process is repeated starting at step 3. That's it. Now you know how to automatically delete old files from your managed file transfer server. Would you like to try the steps in this tutorial? Sending Large Files Via Email. OFTP, Simplified. What we're trying to do Ok. So, for example, if today is March 4, , these three files would be deleted.

To achieve this, we would need: A directory monitor that would scan a specific directory for one year old files; A trigger that would activate the directory monitor every night at PM; and Another trigger that would automatically delete each one year old file found by the directory monitor.

Now that we have a plan, let's put that plan into action. Create a directory monitor to detect old files Go to the Directory Monitors node and create a new directory monitor.

As soon as you're done, click the OK button. Create a trigger that would activate the directory monitor every night Go to the Triggers node and add a new trigger. Specify the time at which this trigger should execute. We are now ready to proceed to the last step. I had to mass delete files in FTP server, empty a folder and delete that too. Sounds simple, but not really! So this FTP server had some database and the database got corrupted.

Since the database got corrupted, the log directory just kept accumulating logs without deleting as none of the files got processed. Over time, it had about files sizes between mb to 4gb. You know web logs, swells up when people wake up and slows down when everyone off sleeping. Any how, so now I got to delete those files through old school FTP.

So far so good, I logged in and can list the directories. Looks like all good and ready to go. Alright, that was a fail! If you entered a folder name or URL, check that it is correct. Server responded "FileName": The system cannot find the file specified".

Do the names of the files you're having problems deleting contain spaces, quotes, or other characters that aren't letters? Some FTP servers will let you upload file whose names contain characters they can't really deal with - such as spaces or quotes - and then won't let you delete them.

I don't think the issue is the file name mainly because there were copies of this file in other folders that we were able to delete. I tested some other files with spaces and other odd characters and had no problem downloading and deleting them. Okay, we'd like to see a transcript of an attempt to delete one of the problem files.

Please do the following:. Fetch 5. I suspect the period at the end of the filename might be causing the problem - do the other problem files end in a period? Regardless, something about that file and probably the others is confusing the server - Fetch is sending the proper commands, but the server is reporting a problem when it tries to execute them. I'm afraid you'll have to talk to the people who run the server and have them delete the files for you, and maybe they can tell why the server is unhappy with those files.

I'm having the same problem as the original poster. It looks like its linked to trying to delete too many files in one go. So, I'll select a directory or multiple files to delete, it will start its work and then stop with that error after deleting some of the files. If I then select the problematic file on its own or as part of a new batch, it will delete it, so it doesn't seem to be linked to the filename.

We'd like to see a transcript that includes both a failed attempt to delete a file while deleting a folder, and then the successful deletion of the file when you try to delete it individually. The next time you try to delete a directory or multiple files and get an error message because a file couldn't be deleted, immediately go try to delete the problem file individually.

Then choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message. PASS Login successful. If you entered a file or folder name or URL, check that it is correct. Thanks for posting the transcript. Unfortunately the server is not offering much explanation for why it won't delete those folders. I would recommend contacting the server administrators, to task them to delete those folders, since apparently it can't be done via FTP. Jim -- Thanks very much for the reply to a transcript arriving without explanation.
